While
at Taft, Anderson was a member of the National Honor Society and was awarded an
Illinois State Scholarship. He was a member of the Norwood Park Imperials Drum
and Bugle Corps playing a bass-baritone bugle.
Anderson was educated at Northwestern University earning a BS Civil Engineering,
MS Civil/Geotechnical Engineering and PhD Civil/Structural Engineering. He is a
licensed Civil Engineer and Geotechnical Engineer in California, and licensed
and a Board-Certified Diplomate at the Academy of GeoProfessionals, American
Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE).
Anderson's experience is in design and construction of heavy civil works with
expertise in geotechnical and foundation engineering. Throughout the U.S. and
abroad, he has served as project manager, task lead or senior consultant/expert
on projects including bridges, highways, tunnels, pipelines, fossil and nuclear
power plants, water and wastewater facilities, dams and levees, industrial
facilities, landfills, and high-rise buildings. He has been an expert witness
for design and construction disputes.
Anderson has served as co-chairman of ASCE's Task Force on Implementation of
Lessons Learned from Hurricane Katrina. A great deal of the technical work was
incorporated into guidance documents prepared by ASCE, the US Amy Corps of
Engineers and State Dam Safety Agencies, resulting in a pamphlet titled "So You
Live Behind a Levee,” now provided free by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to
people with property behind levees.
In 2008 Anderson was made a Diplomate in Geotechnical Engineering by the Academy
of GeoProfessionals. He has written numerous professional publications, has
actively volunteered with, and supports many professional and community
organizations and youth sports.
