Joseph D. Congiusti Jr., January 1967

Joe Congiusti (Jan 67)At Taft, Joe captained the swim team and was an officer of the Letterman’s Club. Later, he served his country for four years as an Intelligence Specialist in Berlin.

While a stock boy under his father who managed the northwest side Paterno’s Liquor Store, he began to learn about wines and other liquors. “Joe C” became a recognized authority on a variety of beverages including the single malt scotches while heading the spirits department at Sam’s Wines and Spirits in Chicago, and as Spirits Specialist for Binny’s Beverage Depot stores.

In 2003 he was inducted as “Keeper of the Quaich,” his industry’s highest honor.

He coached his children’s teams, chaired their school board and volunteered for many charities.

Joe died in 2004.
