After
completing economics degrees at the Univ. of Illinois and Univ. of Washington,
Roger taught at Utah State Univ., worked for the U.S. Agency for International
Development, and received various fellowships and visiting professorships.
Beginning in 1977 he has served as director and Senior Fellow of Resources for
the Future’s forest and policy program, and is a senior fellow of its Energy and
Natural Resources division. He has served on many national and international
committees and has authored more than a dozen books.
His specific research has focused on forests and global environmental problems,
climate change and biodiversity, public lands issues, long-term sustainability
of forests, industrial forestry and demand, timber supply, global forest trade,
forest biotechnology and land use change.
Roger was awarded a Nobel Peace Prize as contributor to the IPCC Second and
Fourth Climate Change Assessment Reports.
