On
the football field at Taft, under Coach Joe Kupcinet, Dick became a legend as a
defensive back for his running, passing, punting and kicking skills, named to
the all-state team and honored as Chicago’s most valuable prep player. At
Northwestern Univ. he played quarterback for Ara Parseghian and earned a
bachelor’s degree in speech communications and journalism in 1961.
He played professional football for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Toronto
Argonauts in the Canadian Football League, and for the Memphis Southmen in the
World Football League. In the mid 70s he became athletic director and head
football coach at Southwestern College in Memphis, TN.
In 1979, Dick earned the Delta KMA of Kroger Foods but was lured away by Coke
USA Bottler Operations where he worked in the South Pacific Division in
Australia and in Atlanta, GA. Based in Southeast Asia, he has been an
independent contractor doing merchandising development for various Coca Cola
bottling operations.
